Review of the children’s and youth film “Nellys Abenteuer”

by Pavel Brunßen, Technische Universität Berlin, on behalf of the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma

On 14 September 2017, the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma had organized an expert conference concerning the issue of Antigypsyism and state film funding; the event took place at the Berlin office of the Documentation and Cultural Centre of German Sinti and Roma. During the discussion, the Central Council addressed the issue of reproducing antigypsyist prejudices – using the children’s and youth film “Nellys Abenteuer” (German for “Nelly’s Adventures”) as an example – as well as the responsibility of the state to provide protection against racist stigmatisation and discrimination in the context of state film funding.

The review by Pavel Brunßen was presented to the public during the expert conference.
