In his short report, the former judge of the Federal Constitutional Court addresses the issue of admissibility of clear allusions to the ethnicity of the accused in statements of judicial and police authorities. The author of the report concludes that the Central Council’s call for improved protection of Sinti and Roma against discrimination is, in principle, justified. The report also supports a regulation that would – with the goal of preventing discrimination -prohibit any mention of ethnic background in official statements or press releases concerning misdemeanours unless it were absolutely necessary for and relevant to the investigation.
